The last day of July with big blues and humpbacks


This last day of July was fantastic on Skjálfandi Bay. Two Blue whales were spotted in the afternoon and in the evening not only blue whales were seen but also humpback whales.

Blue whales back in the bay!


Náttfari, one of North Sailing´s boats found two blue whales in the bay tonight. These pictures were brought in from the trip just now.

Húsavík heatwave!


The weather in Húsavík has been good the last 2 days with temperatures reaching the low twenties.

Two dozens feeding minkes!


The conditions for the minke whales seem to be improving day by day and today a dozen or two of feeding minke whales could be seen in Skjálfandi bay.

A humpback whale and some dolphins also played their part of the show and passengers disembarked North Sailing´s boats happy with their tour, dispite some rain showers, especially before and around noon.

Humpbacks + Midnight sun


The glowing light of the midnight sun close to the arctic circle can be fantastic. Humpback whales are fantastic. What about putting this together? This is the result.

Dolphins sometimes steal the show


The wonderful white beaked dolphins that are spotted in many of North Sailing´s tours are always a great fun for the passengers. The following pictures were taken by Heimir Harðarson this weekend.

Fin Whales seen in all North Sailing tours today


This saturday has been one of the best this summer with up to 6 species of whales spotted in some of the trips.

North Sailing, Unplugged


In the past 24 hours North Sailing has carried out some of the most exciting trips ever, at a time when the whale watching boats have been seeing more species and in greater numbers than can be remembered.

Killer whales!

This morning, 3 of North Sailing´s boats spotted a group of 10 Killer whales together with, Blue Whales, Humpback Whales, Minke Whales & Dolphins. According to specialists this is among the best possible sighting for a 3 hour trip.

Whale watching can become an addiction


There are several examples of people coming again and again on North Sailing´s tours and some even twice a day.

Evelyn & her friend Ursula were a good example of happy customers returning for their second and third trip, even considering their fourth. On one of the trips Evelyn told the captain on the schooner Haukur an interesting story about a saying among the Native Americans. According to Evelyn they believed that the memory of the world is embedded in the blue whales and that the day they would extinct, the world would collapse.

Humpbacks, Blue Whales, Minkes & Dolpins.


4 species of whales have been spotted in most of North Sailing tours the last 4 days. Some of the trips have been a little longer than the usual 3 hours but the number of boats has enabled North Sailing to reach the blue whale areas that are about 12 nautical miles away from Husavik by overlapping the next trips; still being able to take another boat out to the bay right on time.

Today, 4 species have been spotted by North Sailing´s crews out on Skjálfandi Bay. White beaked dolphins, Minke Whales, Humpback whales & even a Blue whale... but the Blues had not been spotted for 3 days until today.

Sailing in the midnightsun


Sailing on Iceland´s only schooner in the midnightsun just south of the arctic circle is something really special. The boat can be chartered for special trips, longer and shorter.
