Swedish Viking visits Húsavík

For the past few days North Sailing has had a Swedish ‘Viking’ helping out with some important projects. The ‘Viking’ is called Leif Nilson and comes from Skärhamn which is a town in the west Swedish archipelago. The town is the same size as Húsavík, with a population of 2500 inhabitants, and is located in a spectacular area where the harbour is the main attraction.

Leif is one of the captains of the schooner Atene (www.msatene.com), which is a 90 ton magnificent boat. There, as in Húsavík, is a special emphasis on sailing with children and youngsters.

North Sailing staff is delighted with Leif´s visit and has learned a lot from his extensive knowledge. After working on Haukur for a few days Leif’s confirmed that the schooner is a quality boat, and that the rig as good quality as on boats from main schooner-period.

It is our hope that this visit will develop into further mutual interactions between the two towns.

The pictures below were taken during Leif’s stay in Húsavík

´Detta är livet´ (´this is life´) said Leif when all sails had been set. Þórunn, Bjössi Sör & Leif enjoy the moment.
