This week we’re celebrating the first “Swedish Days” festival in Husavik. Husavik has close links to Sweden, the most important one being a Swede called Garðar Svavarsson and his slave Náttfari, where the first Nordic people to discover Iceland. Gardar settled in Husavik and lived here over the winter. When departing back to Sweden he lost one of his boats, onboard, his slave was Náttfari. Nattfari then settled in the area and lived here for the reminder of his life. During the “Swedish Days” there will be plenty of things happening in Husavik. The restaurants in town include Swedish dishes on their menus, shops have offers on Swedish products and North Sailing and Salka restaurant invite the inhabitants of Husavik and guests to a history sailing across the bay, following in the “footsteps” of Nattfari, Gardar´s slave.
