North Sailing Schooners

The schooners of North Sailing are descendants of the first decked sailing vessels in north Iceland in the 19th century. The knowledge and know-how of handling and maintaining gaff rigged ships had been all but lost in Iceland. The schooners of North Sailing are now the only active vessels of its kind along Icelandic shores.
North Sailing has made an effort to rekindle relations with sailors of other North Atlantic nations. Húsavík has now become a destination port for sailing vessels exploring subarctic waters. Among them are the majestic gaff rigged ships Dagmar Aaen, owned by Arved Fuchs and the Greenland explorer Activ.
