Not sailing 21. to 23. of August

The weather has been bad these three days and we haven't been able to go to sea. People have been busying themselves with work in the office or working on the boats in harbour.

Close encounters on rough seas

Today the weather was pretty bad and the sea was really rough so going out I wasn‘t very optimistic. My pessimism was however unfounded as on both tours I went out on today we got a very good look at a minke whale.

Bad weather but three species

This morning the weather was quite bad and the sea was really rough. I went out on Garðar with captain Einar, Deckhands Ísak and Teresa and engineer Jóhann.

Wet evening trip with a minke whale.

Today was really wet and the sea was rather rough. Some minke whales had been spotted before during the day all the way on the western side of the bay so we headed that way. Locating a whale took some time but once we located one we managed to hang on to it for a while and got pretty close as well.

Minke whales in the pouring rain

This was a day for raincoats.  It didn't look like it when we started out this morning, being very sunny in the harbor, but it soon became apparent.

August 13th 2010

Four minke whales in the western part of the bay

We knew for a fact that some minke whales where in the western part of the bay, so that was our destination. We ran into couple of Harbour porpoises and plenty of White-beaked dolphins on our way there and finally we reached the creek called Naustavík in the west.

My best boat tour yet, not to mention the whales!

I went out on two tours on Garðar today.  The former one was good, we drove to the western side of the bay, running into some white beaked dolphins on the way, and then taking a look at a few minke whales under the creeks and peaks of Víknafjöll.

Minkes in the rare southern wind

The weather today was great; Unusual southern breeze and sun as the day wore on.

A fin whale or not?

This morning it was a really nice, calm weather and we didn't travel for long when the crew on Bjössi Sör called us to say they saw a minke whale.
