White beaked dolphins playing the main role
Like in the last two days the white beaked dolphins have been almost everywhere you look. So far today though we haven't seen any of the bigger whales.

Minke whales, dolphins and a humpback whale!
This morning the weather was getting a lot better and the sea surface calmer. When I went out at 9:00 we had a great tour, amazing how the bay can change in between days.

A difficult day after the bad weather
Like often when the weather has been as bad as in the last days it can be really difficult to find some whales.

A second day of "bræla"
As predicted, a second day of rough seas and generally bad weather leaves us unable to go out.

Bad weather in the North of Iceland
Today the weather has prevented us from going whale watching, a state of "bræla" as we say here in Iceland.

The great skua in action - Cool pictures
The sky was a bit grey today but fortunately it didn't rain a lot. The humpback whale from yesterday had already left the bay when we went out this morning but the minke whales and the white beaked dolphins haven't gone anywhere and we had great success with them on all our tours.

Success despite thick fog
A thick fog lay over the bay when we went out this morning, and I wasn't especially optimistic for the first tour. We however quickly got reports of White Beaked Dolphins, and managed to stumble on a group of them as well, although they quickly got lost.

Minkes, dolphins and a Humpback whale! - Pictures
The conditions in the bay today were rather hairy. The sea was rather rough as you got further out, but we did get some lovely sunshine and smoother patches closer to land. The day was rather special for me, as this was the first time I guided on schooner Haukur!

Plenty of sightings in lovely weather
We were lucky with the weather today, and sightings were good as well. The weather was mild early in the day, and visibility was rather good. On both the tours I went on with captain Hreiðar, the Minke whale was not far away.

Not the best weather for whale watching
...but we managed all the same!
The weather today started out rather rough, but it did improve a bit over the day. The sea smoothed out at least, but then again it did start raining later. We found two Minke whales in the morning, feeding close to a large mixed group of birds.

A lot of minke whales and white-beaked dolphins
The minke whales have been playing the main role in Skjalfandi Bay for the last few days, but the white-beaked dolphins have been showing up as well.
Two days ago a blue whale was spotted in our evening trip but it had gone out of the bay again the next morning. That tells us that the blue whales are still just outside Skjalfandi Bay and hopefully will be back in the bay before we know it.

Minke Whales, Dolphins and an interesting surprise!
Since we knew that a Blue Whale had been spotted the night before we immediately went in search of it this morning.

A chilly wind, but plenty to see still + a few photos!
The weather inland is lovely, quite sunny and nice. As you head out to Skjálfandi, you can feel how the wind picks up from the north, chilly and strong.

Minke Whales, White Beaked Dolphins and the Great Skua.
We were extremely lucky with weather in our first tours of the day. The wind was not too strong and the sun shining.

Minke whales and dolphins playing
The calm wind from last night didn't last long, it was blowing from north west this morning but it wasn't too strong though, all right to go whale watching.
