Whale Watching Blog

 The past two days have been very bad for whale watching. The strong winds from the North have stopped us from going out to sea altogether. We tried going out at twelve o‘clock yesterday but had to turn back as soon as we reached the opening of the harbour. 

The sea is very rough, great waves that according to the weather observation center reached the height of 4-5 meters here in the bay! The wind is around 10 meters per second and rises up to 23 meters per second out on Tjörnes. All in all very bad weather for going out on sea, thus all of our boats have been tightly bound to the pier for two days now. We even had some „slydda“ (a crossover between rain and snow) which is not ideal summer weather! 

The waves breaking on the shore with tremendous power are truly a sight to behold. The only beings happy with this weather are the seabirds who enjoy playing in the wind. 

The following pictures were taken today around Húsavík and give an idea of what the weather has been like. Hopefully you will enjoy them sitting by your computer in a warm room. :)
