Whale Watching Blog

The weather today was a bit rough in the 17 o'clock tour, but got better in the evening.  To start off the former tour, me and the captain saw a Minke whale breaching in the rough seas, but not many of the passengers caught it.  We waited around but didn't see it again, so we headed on.  We found at least 2-3 more Minke whales during the tour, but it was easy to lose them among the waves. 

After we decided it was time to start heading back, we saw a couple of White Beaked Dolphins breaching repeatedly in the distance, and as we couldn't miss that opportunity, we headed towards them and got a closer look at them, although they had stopped breaching at that point. 

For the second tour, we started off by heading towards where we saw the dolphins last, but found no trace of them.  We scouted around for a while, and finally ran into a Minke whale.  It was a bit hard to keep track off, as it came up quite a distance away each time, although it was mostly hanging around the same area.  We moved on, and it wasn't long until we found another Minke!  This one got lost quickly as well, so again we headed on.  Yet another Minke came across our path, and this one started by jumping half-way out of the sea, making a huge splash.  It then came up with more splashing with its mouth open.   Two lovely evening tours, despite the conditions!
