Whale Watching Blog

Today the weather has prevented us from going whale watching, a state of "bræla" as we say here in Iceland. Strong winds from the north along with heavy rain and low cloud cover make an uninviting situation out in the bay. Tomorrow‘s weather will in all likelihood be just as bad but we are hopeful that the weather will let up soon in the days to come. Even though it is a bit frustrating to be unable to sail we know that bad weather such as this can often help the life of the bay, stirring it up to make for a better environment for our marine friends.

However, despite there being no tours today our staff is not without work. We usually make the most of days like these to hone our skills in safety! The crew went over the safety equipment and emergency plans on board the boats and capped it off with an emergency drill out on sea. The guides and deckhands got to grab the wheel and feel how the boat handles and then ran through one exercise of "man overboard". Everyone returned to pier wet and windswept, but hopefully better prepared for any emergencies down the line.
