Whale Watching Blog

Today was a very good day in the bay. The air almost still and the sea like glass at times with a light cloud cover which makes for the ideal conditions for spotting whales. The animals seemed to be in the same spirit as the weather. In both my tours today we started off by spotting a docile minke whale which came very close to the boat. We could see all of its head from snout to blowholes, hear it well and even smell its foul breath. We also spotted some harbour porpoises which looked absolutely miniscule next to the minke. Then we ventured further out to north of Lundey where we found white beaked dolphins in both my tours. Both groups were very playful, swimming under the boat and peaking up at the passengers by the bow. And eventually we were able to check out puffin island. We approached it from the Northeast and I am happy to say that there was an exceptional number of puffins in the island, flying around and sitting by their burrows.
