Whale Watching Blog

To be honest, I was not very optimistic when I left the harbour 
together with captain Hrólfur at 10:00 today (2.Oct.) on Bjössi Sör,

as the wind was blowing quite strong, which makes it sometimes a bit hard to spot the whales. It turned out, however, to be a really good tour.
 
We were sailing for around 30 minutes, when we ran into a group of 
white-beaked dolphins, southwest of Lundey. They were really playful, 
came bow-riding for a while and one of them was even jumping several  
times just a few metres from the boat.
 
We were watching the dolphins for a short while and after that, we 
decided to head further west, closer to the mountains, to see if we 
could maybe find something else.
A second group of white-beaked dolphins showed up, and even though 
they were not as playful as the first group, it was of course nice to 
take a look at them. A few minutes later, we spotted a minke whale. 
And while we were waiting for the minke whale to come up again, we 
could enjoy some harbour porpoises in some distance from the boat.
 
The minke whale came up quite close to the boat 2 or 3 times. Before we went home again a harbour seal popped up just next to the boat. It was very curious, checked out the passengers on the  boat and then disappeared.
 
All in all, a great tour and it shows that whale watching in October 
can be really entertaining.
