Breaking the duck

Today I spent more time at sea than on dry land (which is how I like it) and I had two marvelous trips, first on Hildur this morning and then on Haukur in the afternoon, on our "Whales, Puffins and Sails" tours.

Both trips were great! A blue whale, a humpback whale and dolphins are the species we saw today but I want to tell you a little bit about the 16:30 tour.
A man from England was on board who told me he had been whale watching many times before, all over the world, but never got to see a whale. He was afraid there was a spell on him and that he was bad luck on whale watching tours!
I promised to do my best in searching for a whale but that I would blame him if we were to be unsuccessful :)

We broke the spell, or like he said himself; broke the duck (and I learned a new english saying) because we encountered this wonderful humpback whale that entertained us for a long time, coming up close to the boat again and again.
The atmosphere on Haukur this tour was just great, everybody was seeing a whale for the first time, sharing the moment with complete stangers that for a few hours were their best friends, happily and proudly showing the next passenger great photos they managed to take of a blow or a fluke!

On days like these I am pretty sure I have the best job in the world.

Halla Marín, guide.
