Blue Whale in a stormy weather

Today the weather was really bad out on Skjálfandi bay, and by bad, I mean bad. On the 10 o´clock tour we still managed to see three species, but on the 13:30 tour we were surpriced by a bigger friend of ours, the Big Blue.

We had spotted a very high spout in a distance and me and captain Hrólfur agreed on that it looked very blue whale-ish. As we got closer we got more and more certain that it was a blue whale. Then we got very close and got assured, a blue whale was in the bay. Then.. then the chasing of the blue whale began! We started heading after the blue whale, trying to see it up close, but it always came up a little bit ahead of us. Since the sea was very bumpy we couldn´t go at any speed at all, so it was a difficult game for us. We started off in the west of the bay, heading south and then east along the shore, almost following the whale into the harbour! We then served the hot chockolate right outside the harbour.

Yes, it was an adventure.. cold, wet and a little wild!
