Whales and humans enjoyed the warmest day of the year
We headed out this morning in beautiful weather. The sun was shining, and it was the warmest day if the year here in Húsavík, with the temperature rising up to 19,5°C.
It didn’t take long until we spotted the first animals of the day. Only about 10 minutes after leaving the harbour we spotted a group of White Beaked Dolphins. As always, they were such a pleasure to see. After observing the White Beaked Dolphins we continued our journey west, towards the stunning Creek Mountains. Over there we spotted three of the mighty Blue Whales! One of them, a very big one, surfaced right next to the boat. The water was so clear that we could see its whole body under the surface and then hear its loud breath. Absolutely amazing. To top all of this, the whale lifted its fluke before going for a deep dive, but seeing the fluke of a Blue Whale is a very rare sight. Later on we spotted two Humpback Whales, one of them surfacing right next to the boat.
The whales were still around for our second tour and were coming up close to the boat. Two of the Blue Whales had combined so at one point we could see them surfacing next to each other.
The sail back to Húsavík was beautiful and the passangers enjoyed sitting in the sun, soaking in the beautiful nature Skjálfandi Bay has to offer.
