TWO NEW BOATS IN THE FLEET
Garðar, built in Esbjerg, Denmark is one of the largest oak boats
afloat in Iceland
Restoration of Garðar, a 109 ton oak boat continued during the summer and this fall the project was put into full swing were around 10-12 men work daily on this complicated and extensive reconstruction. But it’s It´s not only here in Húsavík harbour were North Sailing is restoring boats.
In September a 35 ton oak boat, Hildur was sailed to Egernsund, Denmark were she´ll be changed into a two mast schooner.
Hildur is now ready to receive a rig of around 230 square meters of sails
The plan is that these two boats will be ready to sail with passengers next summer and thus the North Sailing fleet will consist of 6 beautiful Icelandic oak boats. It will be a pleasant and exciting sight to see two traditional gaff-rigged schooners in Húsavík harbour and they are actually the only two that exist in Iceland.
