At least 4 blue whales in Skjálfandi Bay!
The weather in Húsavík has been absolutely fanstastic today, and so have our whale watching tours been.
I went out at 12:00 AM on our smallest boat, Knörrinn. First we met our dear friend, a humpback whale that goes by the name Konni, which was here in the bay last summer as well. Another humpback came along and they gave us a very nice show when swimming very close to the boat and raising their flukes when going for a deep dive several times. Then we noticed the enormous blow from a blue whale, from two blue whales in fact. Both of them came up right next to the boat, an the passengers and the crew were stunned. It‘s so amazing to see the largest animal to ever live on the planet so close up! After watching these two blue whales for a while another one came along. So we had three blue whales, almost at the same spot. Quite unbelievable!
On our way back when we were getting ready to serve the hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls, another blue whale surfaced in front of the boat, and did put the perfect end on a perfect trip.
