Sunshine and southern breeze
These days it doesn’t really feel like the arctic circle is only a few kilometers away. The sun has been shining and a warm and gentle breeze has steadily been blowing from the south. The temperature has been ranging from 16°- 22°C (61°- 72°F) for a few days now and and it’s a joy to go whale watching in this beautiful weather.
Today we were really happy since we found 4 Humpback Whales in the bay. Their spout was visible from far away and it is always an exciting moment when you notice the first spout. The majority of our passengers were on their first ever whale watching trip and several of them could not control themselves and screamed in delight when a big Humpback got inquisitive and swam towards the the non-moving boat and got so close that for a moment we actually thought it had touched the boat. The distance was probably around 1,5 metres! That is absolutely incredible and doesn’t happen every day.
Later we spotted about 6-8 White Beaked Dolphins swimming in perfect synchronicity. A wonderful sight. We managed also to say hello to a loneMinke Whale but that one was rather business like and kept it’s distance. We clearly saw it’s sleek, black body and the dorsal fin. We were hoping to get a glimpse of some Northern Bottlenose Whales that have been spotted recently in the bay but today they were obviously off duty.
It was a very enjoyable day and the weather was absolutely perfect.
