My best boat tour yet, not to mention the whales!
I went out on two tours on Garðar today. The former one was good, we drove to the western side of the bay, running into some white beaked dolphins on the way, and then taking a look at a few minke whales under the creeks and peaks of Víknafjöll. However, while the agenda for the second tour was quite similar, the conditions had really changed. Again, we headed west, but in the short time between the tours, the weather had gone from good to amazing. The sea was as still as I’ve ever seen it, almost like a mirror, and the visibility was amazing. I had the feeling that if anything showed up, I could see it from across the fjord. As with the first tour, on the way we ran into a group of white beaked dolphins, but they were very scattered, which was a bit unusual. Despite the visibility, there was some time before we managed to find anything by the mountains in the west, but finally we got a very good look at some minke whales. The ride home was the most relaxing and wonderful sailing I have ever experienced, the calm sea and the warm wind made it absolutely serene.
