Many humpbacks and the mighty blue whale are back!!!
After the stormy night the wind had calmed down and it promised to be a sunny day.
But the storm apparently had a positive impact on the feeding conditions in the bay: Even from a distance we spotted several blows! Halfway to the west we observed one humpback whale and got some very nice looks on it. But the surprise awaited us closer to the mountains: Suddenly we encountered four humpback whales and it was hard to decide where to look first because the surfaced all around us! And while we were observing these big animals, surprisingly a minke whale came up close to our boat!
During the day the temperature rose and it nobody needed the warm overalls any more! And the day offered even more surprises. When we sailed out in the evening, we saw a very huge blow. After we had approached it, we were sure: It was a blue whale!!!! What a great experience and a wonderful way to end this day – encountering the largest animal that ever lived on earth.
And again, there was the evidence the wild nature is more exciting than any zoo!!!
