Springtime Whale Watching in Northern Iceland
Spring in Northern Iceland brings seasonal change and the welcome return of wildlife to the coastal waters. And this year is no exception, with humpbacks, blue whales, and other species already making their way into the bay.

Close to Árskógssandur, humpback whales have been seen almost daily, feeding in the productive waters of Eyjafjörður. Meanwhile, Húsavík remains a truly special place where humpbacks are regularly spotted, while also attracting some extraordinary visitors to Skjálfandi Bay, including the mighty blue whale.
Húsavík
Often called the whale watching capital of Iceland, Húsavík offers some of the most exciting whale encounters in the country. In spring, Skjálfandi Bay comes back to life with migrating and feeding whales.

Humpbacks are frequently spotted, and with a bit of luck, guests may also encounter rarer species passing through the area. This season, we have already had several days with blue whales, along with other sightings in Skjálfandi Bay, including harbour porpoises, white-beaked dolphins, minke whales, orcas, fin whales, and of course humpback whales.
Árskógssandur in Eyjafjörður
Located in a strategic position within Eyjafjörður, Árskógssandur offers calm waters and consistent whale activity, with humpbacks often seen daily throughout spring. The fjord provides a peaceful setting, sheltered from strong waves and surrounded by stunning snow-covered mountains, with Hrísey Island sitting beautifully in the middle.

Two locations, one goal: the best whale watching experience
One of the key advantages of operating from both Húsavík and Árskógssandur is the flexibility it provides. By choosing the location based on weather and wildlife movements, we can always aim for the best possible conditions.
If whales are not spotted in one location, there is often a very good chance of finding them in the other. And in the rare case of no sightings at all, guests are always welcome to join us again for free on another tour, possibly in a different location.
