Icelandic “whale of fame”
Last night, a bright full moon announced that the next morning would be radiant. And it seems that the warm summer wave has decided to spend more time in Húsavík. Although some wind was blowing from the northwest, it was mild and the sea very calm. The perfect conditions for whale-watching were met. It only remained to be seen if we could find many whales.
There was some excellent visibility at sea, therefore it didn’t take long before we sighted our first animals. As it appears, the humpback whales enjoy taking up summer residence in Skjálfandi Bay.
One of them was really quiet and apparently resting, and smoothly swimming along the surface.
Another one was more active and slapped the water surface with its tail.
Several puffins were seen floating, flying or diving near the boat.
The humpback whales once again proved to be highly inquisitve species and did not hesitate to come close to the boat, showing their beautiful fluke to our enthousiasted guests. Some of these guests had already been whale-watching in different places in the world, and told that Iceland was by far their favourite destination for whale-watching.
Iceland’s “whale of fame” is becoming more notorious every year !
