Worth the wait
This morning the whales are very far away. We past a lone Minke whale who surfaced twice on our way west but no luck spotting him or her again, these beautiful little whales, but so fast! We kept heading west and we were rewarded with Humpback whales. Traveling slowly we suddenly realize that there are 2, swimming very close together. We follow these whales for a long while. The return sail to Husavik is a little adventure as the wind has picked up a little, but that did not stop most passengers from having hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls!
The afternoon tour was easy, easy you say? Yes, we sail out of Husavik harbour and not long after, we encounter Humpback whales, not far of the coast where the little yellow lighthouse is located. Lucky us, finding whales so close to the harbour, this allowed for a long time of whale watching. After a while we realized there are 2 whales, one a little smaller and darker than the other. In the calm of the shielded coastline we enjoyed chocolate in one hand and a cinnamon roll in the other. And as if the whales knew, they surfaced very close to the boat – too bad most cameras were hanging down, or on the benches. A choir of “oohh” sounded on the boat as the whale dove down again, leaving us to enjoy our snack with a smile.
