Back to the wonders of Scoresby Sound!
After two years of break, it was such a great feeling to be back sailing in the magnificent nature of East Greenland and what a comeback it was! Unforgettable weeks onboard our sailboats rolled into a lifetime experience for all of us.

Two magical months in Greenland
We spent eight weeks sailing around East Greenland this summer, showing our passengers a remote land of ice, glaciers and the untouched nature of the Scoresby Sound.
We welcomed passengers from all around the world who had been patiently waiting to take their long-awaited journey to one of the planet’s last great wildernesses. They made their way from New Zealand, Hawaii, South Africa, Vietnam, Germany, and many other countries to experience a unique bucket list holiday with North Sailing. For many travellers, an expedition to Greenland becomes a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Our goal was to create the warmest atmosphere on board, and reading through the guestbooks after the season sure was a real pleasure:

“We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this 8-day sailing on board Hildur at Scoresby Sound with a wonderful crew and travel mates. The scenery was awe-inspiring. The icebergs were mind-blowing. The food by Charlotte was mouth-watering. This was our trip of a lifetime, and the fond memories with captain Hordur, Ales and Aki will last forever. With so much love and thanks from the Vietnam group.”

“Hordur, Gardar, Ales, Nik – wonderful crew, amazing people, the most lovely personalities. I can’t express my gratitude loudly enough to thank you for being yourselves + creating such a warm, beautiful atmosphere. You all made this trip what it is, and just know that you now have a fan club halfway around the world. I hope to absorb into my life going forward the energy and wisdom from this voyage.”

Wildlife encounters
This season was a considerable success spotting wildlife, leaving passengers speechless with the incredible arctic encounters in their natural habitat. We shed a tear of joy when seeing a polar bear mom with a cub playing on the sea ice close to Sol Glacier and when witnessing the blow from the first humpback whale ever spotted on our expeditions in Scoresby Sound! Yet, Greenlandic wildlife is so much more: we saw endless curious seals and countless species of seabirds before they left for the south and other animals! Arctic hares and arctic foxes pleased us with their presence occasionally. Not to forget the muskoxen, one of the most iconic animals of Greenland with the biggest population located in the Scoresby Sund.
Whether we were hiking in the pristine nature or being onboard our schooners, the feeling of spotting the extraordinary wildlife is hard to describe!

Good times onboard
The journey in Scoresby Sound is all about having a great time onboard, and a trip with us can be whatever you want to make it. It can be as active as you like – exploring the coast on the zodiac, hiking until sunset, hoisting the sails with the crew, standing on polar bear watch, counting endless glaciers and icebergs or even donning your swimsuit for a chilly polar plunge.

“This summer, we celebrated the 70th birthday of our captain and founder of North Sailing Hörður, and it was a moment to remember. All the guests and the crew from three sailing boats gathered for a morning swim to celebrate our captain’s morning habit of swimming around his boat Hildur. This led to an enormous endorphin kick and a big happy smile on our faces.”

“After the plunge, Opal’s hot tub was the place to be.”
Food is another essential element of a great relaxing trip. Nothing is more dreamy than waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread and brewed coffee with a view over the icebergs every morning. Our chefs put on a show this year and cooked all the meals to perfection, bringing a taste of the local Arctic cuisine to the plates. Every week we also prepared a little surprise for our guests and threw an outdoor BBQ on shore!

Life before and after Greenland
The legendary Scoresby Sound is renowned among the few Arctic travellers who get the chance to experience this part of the world as a unique place that inspires the imagination. They say there are two stages in life – life before Greenland and life after Greenland. This season proves it’s true.

“Finding your way back to yourself, time to contemplate and relax, while you get comfortable on deck with a cup of coffee, observing icebergs floating past.”

The scenery, the people, and all the deep, strong, eye-opening emotions will transform you and shape your life. We want to thank all our guests for joining us this year.
