North Sailing receives certification from WCA as a responsible whale watching operator
Mission to protect cetaceans
The World Cetacean Alliance is the world’s largest marine conservation partnership. Its mission is to protect whales, dolphins and porpoises and their habitats through global collaboration.
Responsible Whale Watching Certification
The Responsible Whale Watching Certification is awarded to whale and dolphin watching companies that operate with the highest standards of care for local wildlife, sustainability, and customer experience. We are genuinely delighted that we have reached WCA Global Guidelines for Responsible Whale and Dolphin Watching. This certification is the only international label for whale watching companies developed by the industry, for the industry.
Great learning experience for the whole team
„It has been a great journey going through the assessment from WCA and meeting their professional requirements for the certification. It was a good learning experience for the whole team. At the same time, a well-received recognition for the work we had already done in developing a responsible approach to the whales and wildlife of Skjálfandi Bay.“ So says Heimir Harðarson, quality manager and head captain at North Sailing.
“We were very impressed with the application from North Sailing and are excited and proud to be able to showcase their hard work through our programme. We were particularly impressed with the training and educational materials as well as the wide and unique range of social and environmental initiatives of North Sailing,” says Patice Talaue, Certification Manager at WCA.
Conservation is the future
North Sailing proudly presents the guidelines and mission of the certificate to the local community, passengers and fellow whale watchers to emphasize further the importance of responsible whale watching for an even brighter future of whales and wildlife in Skjálfandi Bay. Thank you to everyone who is supporting us on the mission to sustainable whale watching.
