Tourists waiting in lines to go whale watching, sitting outside both Gamli Baukur and Skuld enjoying the weather. North Sailing‘s employees are doing there best to find…

Still grey skies and minke whales

The skies were still grey but at least it wasn‘t raining. I sailed two trips with Cpt. Hreiðar and Deckhand Sammi came along on one trip. We had lot‘s of passengers, almost full capacity of Knörrinn on both trips, and had some great luck with the minke whales. We saw at least 4 or 5…

Grey sky, minke whales and dolphins

Brr… it was really cold out there this morning, the sky grey and sometimes it was raining. But everybody put on warm overalls and off we went. We hadn’t been out for long when we spotted the first minke whale. It was however quite busy and traveling between different areas. Further out we spotted another…

Most of us know both of them from Let’s…

A second day of “bræla”

As predicted, a second day of rough seas and generally bad weather leaves us unable to go out.  It’s drizzling and quite chilly here inland, so the thought of going out doesn’t excite me quite as much as it usually would.  Hopefully it will clear up soon, but then again we’ve been quite lucky with…

What's going on in Gamli Baukur?

Gamli Baukur is brimming with life these days as the summer is of course the busiest time of the year. Let‘s Talk Local is an interesting comedy show about the settlement of Húsavík and the surroundings, performed every day at 15:30 in Gamli Baukur. Wednesday nights are Pubquiz nights and during the summertime it is also…

Bad weather in the North of Iceland

Today the weather has prevented us from going whale watching, a state of “bræla” as we say here in Iceland. Strong winds from the north along with heavy rain and low cloud cover make an uninviting situation out in the bay. Tomorrow‘s weather will in all likelihood be just as bad but we are hopeful that…

Success despite thick fog

A thick fog lay over the bay when we went out this morning, and I wasn’t especially optimistic for the first tour.  We however quickly got reports of White Beaked Dolphins, and managed to stumble on a group of them as well, although they quickly got lost.  We drove on, and as we got closer…
