Today was beautiful, but still very cold with air temperature around 0°C. We sailed out from the harbour and it wasn´t long until we met some White beaked dolphins. After playing with them for a while, we headed further west, towards the mountains where the minke whale had been yesterday. However, there was no sign…
Today was my first tour since last summer and it was refreshing sailing out on Bjössi Sör together with captain Hrólfur and close to 30 passengers. The weather conditions were good, slow southerly winds, quite flat sea and the sun was trying it´s best to break through the clouds. The air temperature was not high,…
The first tour of the season from Húsavík was today and it was no dull season start! Quite the opposite! 🙂 There´s always much excitment within the North Sailing team when embarking on the first tour of the season since we never know if the whales know the season really has started! 🙂 Our…
This is the first winter North Sailing offers whale watching tours from Akureyri. So far we have finished 27 successful tours sailing in the beautiful and sheltered fjord called Eyjafjörður and returned to Torfunes harbour in the centre of Akureyri with happy passengers who have enjoyed the sight of some remarkable humpbacks feeding in the…
This last week has been really good in our whale watching tours from Akureyri. Humpbacks on every tour, usually from 6-8 different individuals. Please remember that our daily tours depart 13:00 every day basically from the towns center, Torfunesbryggjan. For further information click here.
Winter whale watching with North Sailing from Akureyri is turning out to be a wonderful adventure as many humpback whales seem to be feeding in Eyjafjörður, close to Akureyri. Usually up to 10 humpbacks in each tour and minke whales and dolphins have also been spotted on some of them.
We are very excited about our new Whale Watching tour in Akureyri but unfortunately the weather was not favourable today nor does it look like we will have decent weather enough to go tomorrow. However, Sunday November 11, looks promising so we are quite confident that we will be able to offer Whale Watching…
On the first two tours out from Akureyri, captain Hrólfur and guide Gísli have spotted many humpback whales and also white beaked dolphins.
The last three days have still been very successful with the humpback and minke whales still playing the main role. But on two trips during these three days we also saw a single male killer whale, most likely one of the two orcas that have been around here last week – what a nice surprise!…
This weekend we have had absolutely amazing whale watching conditons again. The weather has been really good in October so far and also yesterday and today the sun was shining for most of the time, making the bay look really beautiful, especially the mountains on the western side of the bay. Also the whales…
It was a bit windy in Húsavík this morning, but a few minutes after we had left the harbour, it calmed down quickly and we had fine weather conditions at sea. The number of whales is still very impressive and today there must have been about 8-10 humpback whales again, 3 of them feeding/travelling together.…
We still enjoy very good whale watching conditions here in Skjálfandi Bay, with lots of whales yesterday and today: Yesterday once more the baleen whales played the main role, and we saw several humpback and minke whales on both trips close up, including some nice humpbacks that were feeding at the surface. Today we…
It was quite windy last night and also earlier this morning, so we had to cancel our 10:00 tour this morning due to high waves. But it was getting calmer later so we headed out at 13:30 onboard “Bjössi Sör” and that paid off!!! Just about 15-20 minutes after we left the harbour, we…
The good whale watching conditions continued today as we once again had two successful trips. On the morning tour we got some nice close-up encounters with the two most common species these days, the minke whales and the humpback whales. In the afternoon the weather was getting even better and in really calm…
Today was pretty similar then yesterday: Still amazing whale watching! Beautiful weather (the sun was shining the whole time on both trips), calm sea, wonderful landscape and also wonderful whales. There are still a lot of humpback whales in the bay and what made it so special today was the fact that they…
Today was one of these days that could not have been any better for whale watching. The sun was shining, the sea was really flat and the mountains with the snow on top looked very beautiful when we headed out this morning. It didn’t take long until we spotted several minke whales in the…
There is still an impressive number of humpback whales in Skjálfandi bay and on some of our tours during the last days, we also spotted several minke whales in the same area where the humpback whales have been feeding. Yesterday morning we got a really nice close-up look at both minke and humpback whales, whereas…
Today we could not have asked for better conditions for whale watching, it was absolutely fantastic! Me and captain Hrólfur went out on Náttfari with 30 passengers and as we left the harbour the sun was shining and the Creek Mountains were just stunningly beautiful. After only about 20 minutes we saw the first spouts…
The sea was almost as flat as a mirror when we headed out into Skjálfandi Bay this morning. Our first whale encounter today was a really nice group of four harbour porpoises, surfacing right next to the boat a few times. We got to see them very well, which is quite rare, as these small…
We had amazing weather conditions today, it was an absolutely beautiful autumn day here in Húsavík: The sun was shining during both trips and we had almost no wind – perfect conditions for whale watching. After sailing for about half an hour in a northwesterly direction, we spotted a powerful blow in the distance:…
